All about Elac Debut S8 Powered Subwoofer

Ever since Andrew Jones and Elac introduce the Deut series, there has been an unrest in the high fidelity and audiophile-grade speaker category. Both the renowned audio engineer and the legendary German audio brand have pushed the same narrative - good audio does have to be expensive. In fact, with every new model they introduce, they propel the idea even further.

Inspired by the “affordable audiophile speaker” ethos, Elac launched the Debut series and subsequently the Debut 2.0 series. The immense popularity of these speakers is a testament to the quality of sound they deliver at the price point. From all the speakers in the series, there is a tiny model that often goes unnoticed. The model in question is the Elac Debut S8. At Ooberpad, we believe the S8 should get as much attention as its older siblings the Debut S10and Debut S12 subwoofers. Don’t be fooled by the size of the subwoofer, this compact model packs a punch.

Elac Debut S8
Based on the success of the Debut S10, Elac has specially designed the S8 for bass reproduction in small to medium-sized rooms. The Elac Debut S8 is compact 100W powered subwoofer for home theatre systems. Engineered to perfection by Andrew Jones and Elac’s design team, the powered subwoofer delivers a powerful, deep and accurate bass response from a compact build size.

The subwoofer features a high-excursion down-firing 8" doped paper cone woofer driven by a hybrid BASH® amplifier for higher power and efficiency. The Bridged Amplifier Switching Hybrid (BASH) amplifier combines the sound quality of Class AB with the efficiency of Class D amplifiers. The Class AB amp uses fixed supply voltage regardless of the input signal while BASH uses a modulated switched mode power supply that tracks the input signal and supplies only the necessary voltage to the Class AB amp as needed. The latest BASH technology has undergone three core evolutions and is further refined for maximum performance in the Elac Debut S8 powered subwoofer. The result of this combination is a powerful and deep bass output even from a compact enclosure. With a 100 W amplifier built-in, there's plenty of power to deliver low frequencies in your music, movies, TV shows and gaming sessions. The dual flared ports of the subwoofer further enhance the bass output of the subwoofer.

Despite its compact size, the Debut S8 is capable of delivering a frequency response between 38 to 200 Hz. On the back panel, the powered subwoofer sports volume control, crossover frequency, phase selection, premium-grade LFE stereo RCA input connector, and an intuitive auto power On/Off option for power saving. You can tune the bass crossover frequency control knob from 40 to 200Hz as per your taste.

Designed by the renowned engineer Andrew Jones, the S8 is timbre-matched with other speakers from the Elac Debut series. This means you can use it to design a multichannel surround system as per the requirements of your room. Thanks to its compact size you can also use it with AV receivers that have dual subwoofer output for an even bass output with a wide dispersion area.

The Elac Debut S8 subwoofer is engineered for the long run with high-endurance CARB2 Rated MDF wood and is draped in a classy textured vinyl finish. Not only does the S8 sound impressive but it also looks a class apart. In a nutshell, the Debut S8 is a compact, powerful and a highly cost-effective subwoofer for audiophiles and cinephiles on a budget.
